Aurora aims to be a responsible company by using its knowledge, expertise and finances where possible to support and contribute to targeted charities, relevant government initiatives, sponsorships, networking services, business mentoring, and business ventures. Aurora is a for-profit commercial company that is actively involved in a variety of responsible initiatives on an annual basis.

Aurora Network

Aurora Network
As a commercial for-profit company, Aurora's Network of course provides a vauable company asset. However the aim of the Network is threefold:
1.) to support Network members in successfully advancing their businesses or careers
2.) to provide a channel to market for Aurora to provide targeted services to corporate clients
3.) to provide a targeted community for corporate organsiations seeking to educate specific market segments about their business products/services and/or employer brand and job vacancies.

However much of what is done through the Aurora Network is also provided free of charge (eg. the woman-owned online business diectory, the online discussions forums, news and communications, etc). This enables Aurora as a company to 'giveback' in ways that are helpful to individual members.

Aurora

Charities
Each year Aurora provides a number of charitable donations and support to various charities. Our preference is to support charities that support the economic advancement of women. Aurora's two current preferred charities are:
1.) World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). See www.wagggsworld.org.
2.) Womankind International that provides financial support for women-run community improvement projects in developing countries. See www.womankind.org.uk.

Previous recipients of charitable donations from Aurora have incuded:
- Break Through Breast Cancer that provides breast cancer research and education: See www.breakthrough.org.uk.
- Women's Aid a UK women's domestic violence charity. See www.womensaid.org.uk.
- Prowess: Founding Member status and subsequent annual membership of this UK association that is a central lobby group for organisations providing enterprise support to women starting businesses. See www.prowess.org.uk.

Aurora

Government initiatives
Aurora enjoys being invited to participate in government consultations, business-related policy committees and taskforces. Aurora's current government commitment is chairing the UK Women's Enterprise Taskforce, a three year appointment announced in the March 2006 Budget by Chancellor of the Exchequeor. Previous government commitments have included participation on:
- UK Women's Enterprise Strategic Framework committee
- UK DTI's Innovation Taskforce chaired by Lord Sainsbury

Aurora

Sponsorships
Periodically Aurora sponsors initiatives relevant to our business focus (i.e. female development focused such as talent development initiatives for the corporate sector and/or finance or technincal women-owned business development initiatives). For example, Aurora financially sponsored an Oxford University Girl's Rugby team for one year. This involved meeting the running of costs for the team to train and participate in their match season.

Aurora

Business development mentoring
Periodically Aurora's Founder and CEO, Glenda Stone, mentors early stage women-business owners who have founded ventures in B2B industries and who have achieved a minimum of a +£500,000 turnover. Mentoring ranges from email responses to specific questions, through to face-to-face strategy meetings.

Business venture investments
Aurora invests in R&D and early stage business ventures that:
- are Business-to-Business (B2B) products and services
- are technology-dependent with good IP
- have a competent and experienced management team
- are scalable with efficient operations / logistics / processes / procedures
- have a clearly defined and achievable exit strategy.

Please note that we do not invest in Business-To-Consumer (B2C) ventures unless they have capability of being a B2B2C venture. Typical investment rounds range from $10,000 - £100,000. Recent investments have included investments in:
- a R&D company in the energy sector
- an innovative company in the renewable energies sector
